It takes effort to achieve an effortless mastery of something.

I'm at a cross roads in my life.

Whatever I engage in to get out of my hole requires me to make choices between many alternate roads, to focus on a path and start at the beginning.

In ordrr to run, i must walk

I'm learning new skills related to the old. so,me insights exist i can build on but I've still got to pay nme dues

the dishes analogy co,es from a zen koan long forgotten

my wife and i moved into our first apartment together about 6 years ago and it was the first time either of us did not have a dishwasher at home (spoiled brats!) - anyway, i thought it would be hell.

we haven't had one sinse, and doing the dishes has become a daily therapy and a practice in standing meditation! if i don't stand right, the back aches after about 5 minutes...

I think maybe you're referring to: "Before enlightenment, chop wood, carry water - after enlightenment, chop wood, carry water."
It's all in the mind.

Would you say attitude originates in the mind, or some other place?

I would say attitude comes from the whole person . . . mind, body, spirit, etc. I don't try to limit where information comes from anymore. My eyes see, my ears hear, my nose smells, my mouth tastes, my intuition guides, and on and on it goes.
